Title of activity
Academic Campaign for Goal 11

Description of activity
Students have developed research, identifying urban problems of Santiago city associated with goal 11 and its targets. They have interacted and socialized these problems with city stakeholders (individuals or institutions as responsible or victims of the problem), have heard opinions from citizens, organizations or institutions that should contribute to the solution, and generated alternatives and/or proposals for addressing urban problems.

We have spent months of readings, reflections, case analysis and formulation of reports on urban solutions that enable the achievement and sustainability of a resilient city, green, safe, healthy, inclusive, planned, and productive. In the same way, students built a wall mural as a tool of promotion, participation and visibility of the Campaign for all members of our Architecture School, as well as visitors.

Changes that took place as a result of this activity
We have updated our Urbanism program courses and developed different activities for the integration of students and teachers. As part of the dissemination activities, we have been used the most effective social networks to expand knowledge and encourage citizen engagement in the university, work, school, home, streets … everywhere!!!
How the impact of the activity was measured
Our students shared the Goal 11 using Social Media Twitter: #GlobalGoals Selfie (http://cdn.globalgoals.org/2015/09/The-Global-Goals-Selfie1.pdf), getting retweets from Global Goals UN (@GlobalGoalsUN), also from the United Nations Development Programme in DR (@PNUDRD) and different organizations and individuals who have made a permanent network of collaborators to preserve the Campaign.

United Nations Development Programme in DR has recognized this initiative as a model that can serve as a model for other universities in the country and the region.

Additional notes
UN-Habitat has been engaged in Latin America and the Caribbean for many years. Recognizing that the Dominican Republic needs to move towards this strategic partnership with UN-Habitat, we are in the best disposition to work as a academic collaborator to continue promoting and supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), specifically SDG 11.
