IHS, the Institute for Housing and Urban Development Studies, an awarding-winning (UN-Habitat Scroll of Honour) institute of Erasmus University Rotterdam and the Erasmus School of Social and Behavioural Sciences (ESSB) are launching a new Master’s programme together. This one-year, full-time Master programme is a unique collaboration between the institutes and awards a Master of Science in Public Administration: Urban Governance Specialisation. The course will combine the excellent reputation of ESSB in governance studies and public management (#1 for Public Administration, Shanghai Ranking) with IHS’ 60 year history in the field of urban management.
This joint programme allows students to learn to develop sustainable governance policies and apply them to solve real-life examples in interactive urban governance labs. The curriculum combines knowledge from public administration, political science, urban economy, sociology and urban planning. It enables participants to gain knowledge on current trends, topics, innovations and tools from various disciplines in the field of urban governance such as the circular economy, place-making, co-production, and self-organisation. In addition, students have the opportunity to extend their network with project work and field visits to local stakeholders (e.g. Port of Rotterdam).
