The NTUA is the most prestigious educational institution of Greece and has contributed unceasingly to the country’s scientific, technical and economic development. The School of Architecture of NTUA consists of four departments with distinct areas of expertise, where a multitude of teaching and research staff, training/teaching staff with a specialization, technical laboratory staff as well as administrative employees work. These departments cover the subjects of architectural design, urban and regional planning, architectural language, communication and design and architectural technology.
The School of Architecture of NTUA hosts approximately 1500 active undergraduate and 250 active post graduate students as well as 500 PhD candidates and undertakes collaboration projects with other universities in Greece and abroad (65 institutions from 17 countries) through educational programs and student and academic staff exchanges. The School is collaborating with International GOs or NGOs (UNESCO, OWHC, ICOMOS, EIT, UIA, TICCIH, DOCOMOMO etc) for policies and strategies making, regarding housing, urban revitalisation, conservation and rehabilitation of architectural heritage within historic cities and other specialisations.
The Department of Urban and Regional Planning offers courses on spatial planning and design at urban and regional level, in relation to economic and social parameters which determine it. Within the framework of the Department there are functioning six research laboratories.
