Cairo University was founded on the 21st of December 1908, aiming at establishing a national center for educational thought; it represents the prime indigenous model for other state universities in the region.
The main campus was completed in 1935 in its current location in Giza. Cairo University currently has 25 faculties/schools in different scientific disciplines, with a total number of over 250,000 students. Amongst its faculties is the faculty of Engineering (CUFE) which includes 14 departments amongst which, is the Department of Architecture.
The degree awarded by the program of Architecture in CUFE is a Bachelor’s of Science (B.Sc.) in Architectural Engineering and grants the graduate eligibility to apply to the Egyptian Engineers Syndicate for a professional practice license. The program has developed considerably during the past two decades. The Architectural program consists of 10 Academic terms.
The Department of Architecture was awarded the academic validation from the Union of International Architects (UIA) in October 2014.
