UNI Global Meeting 2016

On October 20th, 2016 UNI held a Global Meeting of universities at Habitat III in association with HESI – the Higher Education Sustainability Initiative.

The meeting was organized by UNI and HESI in partnership with UNEP, UNESCO, UN-DESA, UNU and UN-Habitat, and included speakers from amongst others Cairo UniversityUniversity of Auckland, Stanford University, Université de Montréal,  RMIT University as well as representatives from municipalities and universities globally.

The meeting was the last of a series of related events that started with the GAP Roundtable of the Academia and Researchers on Sunday, October 16th, continued with the GPEAN event that discussed the role of planning schools for the New Urban Agenda earlier on Thursday October 20th.

The Global Meeting focused on concrete actions to support effective engagement of universities and cities in the implementation of the new commitments of the New Urban Agenda and the 2030 Development Agenda. For this purpose, it presented the UNI Action Plan for higher education.
