UN-Habitat Global Urban Lectures – Upcoming New Season and Focus on Climate Change Issues

By on September 17, 2019

We are pleased to announce a call for lecture proposals for the sixth season of the Global Urban Lectures.

The Global Urban Lectures are some of UN-Habitat’s most popular videos, in which renowned experts deliver a 15-minute lecture on themes related to sustainable urbanization.

The new season will be launched at the World Urban Forum 10 (WUF10) in February 2020 in Abu Dhabi.

In partnership with the Global Covenant of Mayors (GCoM), several of the new lectures will be focused on cities and climate change. UN-Habitat is, therefore, looking for proposals that demonstrate successful and replicable approaches. Some of the topics we are looking for, but are not limited to, are:

  • Urban planning and design focusing on adaptation and mitigation;
  • Uncertainty: how to define and assess uncertainty when developing climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies;
  • Finance: alternative financing opportunities and mechanisms to support urban climate change agendas;
  • Built and green/blue infrastructure;
  • Sustainable consumption and production for low-carbon lifestyles and climate resilience;
  • Informality and its implications for adaptation and mitigation;
  • Climate resilience for the urban poor;
  • Decarbonizing cities (mobility, energy, buildings);

One of the key principles of the Global Urban Lectures is to demonstrate a sound analysis of problems and issues at stake, including clear propositions to address them and examples that present how such propositions are being tested or have been effectively implemented.

If you have an innovative and interesting practice or applied research to share please submit your proposal through the following link: http://uni.unhabitat.org/global-urban-lectures-propose-lecture/.

Applications from women and candidates from developing countries are strongly encouraged.

All complete applications should be submitted by Friday 18th of October 2019.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at unhabitat-uni@un.org.

We look forward to receiving your proposals!
